nina&lola proudly presents: JF&Son, smartypants from New York

Thursday, 26 March 2009

We've been talking about this superb new label we got from New York for ages, and finally we are proud to present JF&Son.

Being a professional cynic, I don't get excited about much, so this really means something. JF&Son goes beyond the standard fashion label's call. Jesse Finkelstein, the creative director, says about the design philosophy: "Each collection draws its inspiration from the geometry of the body and uses the shape, color, and materiality of textiles to alter that geometry." Jesse doesn't just like to sound clever - she is. With a degree in Political Science and Visual Art from Browns University, she specialises in homeland security and has contributed to reports on the matter for the UN.

Quality and production values are a cut above the rest as well. With studios in New York and Delhi, JF&Son operates in an equitable environment, where everyone is involved in the whole design experience (everything is made in-house as well). With sumptuous silk fabrics creating the base of this collection, there is an abundance of sequin embroidery, origami pleat detail and delicate layering to create a NYCity chic.

Oh, and this is our favourite part, the disc sequins are made of recycled plastic bags.
