A little lesson from a product developer: if a coat is unlined, it's better made. There is no (cheap) lining to cover up poorly done seams; everything needs to be finished perfectly. If on top you have the panels of the fabric cut without finishing, meaning they have to be cut perfectly, you got a pretty good product.
